First of all, absolutely love the site, you guys seem pretty damn cool, looking forward to seeing this expand.
I've got a question for you guys who are in fraternities- what would you recommend doing for rush? I'm a freshman at a state school of about 40k people, and spring rush is about to start in a few weeks. I've got friends in the current pledge classes+ letters of recommendation from alumni at some of the top frats, so I've got some help there, but are there any specific things you would recommend doing to increase my chances of getting a bid? I know it's basically just showing that you're a cool, chill guy, but I'd love some pointers if you have any.

I’ve been in a fraternity at a 50k student school for several years and have been rush chair a few times. I’m not sure how the Greek system works at your university but a lot of schools do their main rush in the fall, and spring is a lot smaller. If that’s true, still rush this spring, do not wait any longer. The sooner you do it the better. But keep in mind rush is how a fraternity survives as an organization. They want new guys, they need cool guys. So as much as you are trying to impress them they are more so trying to impress you and convice you to join.
Try and meet as many of the active members as possible. You will forget names, but introducing yourself and shaking hands with more guys the better. The chapter talks about events after they happen and it looks good when multiple people remember meeting a solid guy.
Be yourself. i.e. don’t try and out drink everyone or do something you normally wouldn’t do to act cool because you think it looks good. Remember, they are rushing you, it’s a party thrown in order to convice you to join. So enjoy yourself. Talk to girls, get fucked up, and meet people. Don’t be awkward. If the fraternity is doing their part they should be keeping you entertained and making sure you are having fun, not the other way around. Dress the part if you can. Ask questions about the fraternity to show that you are interested and not just there to party. And if you bring hot girls or bring a hot girl home that always looks good.
